FF.net uses ads to pay for bandwidth usage. It does use up a lot of bandwidth, and did even when people were donating money. Otherwise, it doesn't actually make money from users that isn't utilized in keeping the site going.
A new journal may work for that purpose, if you choose to go that route. But, I'm old-fashioned and think you should wait for a book deal or something.
